Although it may not be the best choice for the bedroom, Honeywell's Top Fill Cool Moisture humidifier is an excellent choice for humidifying very large rooms or multiple rooms at the same time.

In this review, we will describe everything you need to know about Honeywell’s Top Fill Cool Moisture humidifier, a cold mist humidifier designed for extra large rooms or multiple rooms. We will explain how the humidifier works, how easy it is to assemble and clean, and how quickly it can humidify the room.

Two large water tanks (3 gallon capacity) Large filter to reduce minerals. Suitable for hard water. Wide tank opening is easy to clean. Three fan speed settings. Evaporative humidifier will not leave visible water mist. Filling the water tank is easy to add water. Adjustable humidistat in large rooms or multiple rooms maintains the set humidity level

Honeywell's Top Fill Cool Moisture humidifier is an evaporative humidifier, which means it sucks the dry air in the room into the humidifier and exhausts the humid air. Because it must leave room for the filter, it is larger than an ultrasonic humidifier, which is often filterless. However, the filter does remove many minerals from the water, especially hard water, thereby keeping the white dust that may settle around the humidifier to a minimum.

Compared to other humidifiers in its price range (above $100), the Honeywell Top Fill Cool Moisture humidifier has fewer features. This is a basic humidifier, the control is very simple, but there are two large water tanks, which can quickly increase the humidity in a large room.

Honeywell's Top Fill Cool Moisture humidifier is available in black or white to match the design of your room, but it is bulky and bulky, so you need to consider where to put it before choosing this humidifier.

Compared with other humidifiers we have tested, the Honeywell Top Fill Cool Moisture humidifier is large and bulky. Although it can and will fit on a dressing table or counter, it takes up a lot of space. The user manual recommends not to place the humidifier on any surface that may be damaged by water, and it is recommended to place it at least 12 inches away from any wall.

Because the water tanks are tall, they are not easy to put into the shallow sink in the bathroom. Our tester used a humidifier in her bedroom and brought two water tanks in and out of her kitchen to fill them up. However, the top filling function of this humidifier also allows you to leave the water tank in the humidifier and fill the kettle with water. Since this humidifier can hold three gallons of water, this may mean multiple trips to fill up the water.

Our testers found that the bulk of Honeywell's Top Fill Cool Moisture humidifier is not suitable for bedrooms. Although Honeywell does not specify a range of room sizes for this humidifier, it is designed to humidify large spaces or multiple rooms. Therefore, it may be best for something like an open-plan living room.

Putting the Honeywell Top Fill Cool Moisture humidifier together requires some assembly. The humidifier comes with two buoys, you must install them before you can start using them. Our testers found that the paddles are easy to put in-with a little pressure, they will click into place. The user manual also recommends removing the supplied filter and immersing it in water before starting to use the humidifier.

The filter absorbs water from the two water tanks. The fan draws dry air from the room, passes it through the filter, and then exhausts the hydrated air. Wetting the filter first helps in this process. The filter is easy to remove and put back in place-you just lift it from the top of the humidifier, pull out the filter, wet it, and then reassemble it.

Unlike other humidifiers we have tested, the Honeywell Top Fill Cool Moisture humidifier has very basic functions. There are only two types of controls, one with a water drop symbol and the other with a fan symbol. The fan symbol just controls the speed of the internal fan, you can choose low, medium or high. According to the user manual, high is for rapid humidification, medium is for daily humidity control, and low is for "quiet setting".

The knob with a drop symbol ranging from one drop to three drops is used to control humidity. When the humidifier is turned on for the first time, it should be adjusted to the highest humidity control (three drops) and run for at least one hour, then you can turn the humidity control down. Once the "Humidity reached indicator" light turns green and the humidifier turns off, your desired humidity level is set. When the room is below this setting, the humidifier will automatically turn on and turn off when the humidity level is reached.

Our testers found these controls a bit confusing, especially when compared to humidifiers with screens, which allow you to set the target humidity level very clearly. Unless you have a separate hygrometer (also sold by Honeywell), it is not clear how much humidity you set the device to when you turn down the humidity control.

We tested the Honeywell Top Fill Cool Moisture humidifier at all three fan speeds. At high places, the humidity in our tester’s room increased from 51% to 56% in the first hour, and increased by 7% to 63% in the next hour. Compared with other humidifiers we have tested, this is a very fast growth rate. It should be noted that the bedroom area of our tester is 234 square feet-a large bedroom, but it is smaller than the applicable space of this humidifier.

Under moderate conditions, the Honeywell Top Fill Cool Moisture humidifier increases the humidity in the room from 65% to 68% in one hour, and increases by 2% in the next hour. In the "quiet mode", the humidity in the room rises from 48% to 50% in one hour and to 53% in the next hour.

Since this humidifier can hold three gallons of water, it can be used for a long time without refilling. At the lowest setting, the two tanks should last 24 hours. When we tested it at high temperatures, the humidifier was still running after 14 hours.

After understanding the working principle of the humidity control knob, our testers found that the Honeywell top-filled humidifier is easy to use. However, compared to other humidifiers she has tested, it is loud. At the highest setting, the humidifier recorded 50 decibels on the noise meter. Since the room recorded 25 decibels without a humidifier, it effectively added 25 decibels of noise to the room. This is much louder than other humidifiers that increase the noise level of the room by 5-7 decibels.

We like the speed and effectiveness of Honeywell's Top Fill Cool Moisture humidifier to increase room humidity. If your space is very dry and you don't mind the white noise in the background, this is a good choice.

Honeywell's Top Fill Cool Moisture humidifier is an easy humidifier. It does not have the additional features of a humidifier in the same price range (over $100), such as app control, a screen that displays the humidity level of the room, and an aroma diffuser. However, it is an excellent humidifier with a simple purpose, just to increase the humidity in the environment. We recommend Honeywell Top Fill Cool Moisture humidifiers for large apartments or people who want to humidify multiple rooms.

If you want features such as a screen that displays humidity and the ability to set specific humidity targets, Honeywell's top-filled humidifier is not for you. For more than $100, you can get a humidifier with more bells and whistles.

Even if you are looking for a basic humidifier, Honeywell's top-filled humidifier may not be the right choice. Compared with other models, this humidifier is very large, it can hold a lot of water and provide space for the filter to remove minerals in the water, but make it bulky. It is also louder than similarly priced models, which makes this humidifier less suitable for bedrooms (unless you happen to enjoy white noise while sleeping). The noise is equivalent to running an air conditioner-if this kind of noise disturbs you when you sleep or watch TV, then this humidifier is not good for the bedroom or living room.

Even with a filter, the Honeywell Top Fill Cool Moisture humidifier needs frequent cleaning. The user guide recommends cleaning once a week to remove accumulated minerals. However, this cleaning plan is similar to other humidifiers.

Since Honeywell's Top Fill Cool Moisture humidifier has a filter, it also requires slightly more maintenance than the filterless model. You must change the filter every 30 to 60 days. If you are using hard water, you need to change it more frequently.

Amazon users rated Honeywell's Top Fill Cool Moisture humidifier as 4.5 points (out of 5). People who like humidifiers like it can quickly and effectively increase the humidity of the room.

In cold climates, humidity is always difficult to maintain, so my expectations for this humidifier are not high. To my surprise, after a day and a half, my home (a 1,200 square foot apartment) was too humid (51% RH @ 68f). I actually had to turn it down to avoid condensation!

Others like that Honeywell’s top-filled cold humidifier is an evaporative humidifier rather than an ultrasonic humidifier. Because it is evaporating, the humidifier has no visible mist, and the humidity output partly depends on the humidity at the beginning of the room.

People who are not satisfied with Honeywell's Top Fill Cool Moisture humidifier think the filter and water tank are too fragile. One reviewer wrote that replacing the filter can be expensive, especially if you have hard water.

The entire filtration system is labor-intensive, and the machine must be disassembled each time to rotate the wet filter or re-wet the filter when it dries. When you combine these, changes in tank materials, and the cost of filters, a pretty good thing now gets worse.

Honeywell's Top Fill Cool Moisture humidifier is an excellent compact humidifier that can quickly increase the humidity level in a large space. We recommend using it in an open-plan living room to humidify multiple rooms in your home or large apartments. This humidifier does produce more noise, and is larger and bulkier than comparable-priced models, so you should take this into consideration when considering purchasing a Honeywell top-filled humidifier instead of other models.

There are many other humidifiers in the price range above $100. If you are interested in more features, our testers will like Levoit Classic 300S, which can be controlled through the app. This Levoit model has an automatic mode that automatically adjusts to a comfortable humidity level, essential oil diffuser and night light.

We also like the Levoit LV600HH humidifier, which is not controlled by the app but has many of the same functions as the Classic 300S. The Levoit LV600HH has a larger water tank than other Levoit, with a capacity of 1.5 gallons and can run for at least 17 hours. If you are not sure whether to choose a cold mist humidifier or a warm mist humidifier, the LV600HH may be a good choice because it allows you to switch between the two.

Finally, Elechomes HTJ-2119 is another good choice in this price range. Similar to the two Levoit models, it has a built-in humidity sensor that allows you to set a specific humidity target. If you are worried about children messing up your humidity settings, this is a good choice for you. Child lock keeps your settings unchanged until you want to change them.
